Browse: General features
Browse Search type is a simplified-type search . This way search purpose within the TinREAD integrated library system is to offer a searchable method close to those practicised by the user when it is in front of a traditional catalog, organized on the cards written on paper. In a traditional catalog, the user starts searching from a letter, word, figure or a number. Once arrived in front of the right catalog card that corresponds to the global mode, with the first step of your search, the user begins to browse the cards.
Similarly, the Browse search type provides to automated catalog users a manner to perform exactly the same steps as in traditional way of catalog file browsing. In the search field the user determines what type of information is seeking. This is similar to establish to which traditional catalog type they would physically go in a library: alphabetical catalog, systematic catalog or titles catalog. In the Browse form search this is achieved by selecting criteria from the first field type selection list in the search bar.
Browse: how to start your search
1st step. First, we must think about the information type you're looking for and choose the organization therefore closest to the needs of our information. Thus, if we are interested in a particular author, will select the first field in the search bar type "Authors-all". On the same principle, if we are interested in the topic, we choose the type "Subjects", and if we are interested in debt we choose or, where appropriate, we will preserve the default type "All titles".
2nd step. In the search field, we'll introduce the word, the figure or number on which we want to start looking for records that match the criteria you have previously selected.
3rd step. Start Search is made by TinREAD after pressing the Browse button or pressing <Enter> when the pointer is still in the search field, or with the key <Tab>, the Browse button being selected.
In a situation where the system on which launch the search has a touch screen you can activate the virtual keyboard by pressing the corresponding symbol in the bottom, left-hand side, immediately below the search box. The virtual keyboard is also useful if you want to search for documents whose information is in another language or in a different alphabet than the default of system on which you perform the search.
If the text you enter contains diacritic characters you can select them in a window that you can open by clicking the symbol under letter "T" found at the bottom, left-hand side, immediately below the search box and the right of the symbol for the virtual keyboard.
Displaying data and Browsing
The results are displayed on the principle of "starts with ..." or "equal and bigger as. .."
Sorting records displayed after a search is the default alphanumeric type.
Screen pages with information may contain 10, 20 or 50 records, the user can choose any of these steps in the selection list on the left hand side corner, top of the box with the results.
To navigate within the results box with the arrow buttons using <Down> and <Up> or the scroll bar. To move from one page to another use the "Next >" and "< Privious" buttons.
As a feature of this data mode display, from the initial point to which you start the research (written in the search bar), browsing can be achieved even before the start and from the position sought by pressing the "< Privious" button.
Within the search results box there are presented usual records when the bibliographic records are unique, either uniform entry for homonyms. Homonymous records are easily identified by the fact that does not display in the body of the description of other data than title, have no selection box, and in the end, after the title, in square brackets is the number of records mentioned homonymsunder that title. These records can be accessed as list by making a click on the title of the entry. List of homonyms of these recordings is displayed in a new window of internet browser you are using. So, anytime you can return to your original list without performing additional steps or lose this information.
Toolbar

To be able to perform one or another of the actions carried out by pressing the corresponding buttons, you must select the page that displays the results of the search, the records for which you want to be valid the action you take. Data export formats allow the transmission of data in standard ways of presentation: XML, typical ISO 2709 and expanded, as well as in the specific format for end-of-chapter notes or bibliographical reference list. For any of these standard formats, text can be exported in UTF-8 format or Big5.
